Late Kudirat Abiola's children cries for justice

Late Abiola was killed on June 4, 1996 while working alongside other pro-democracy activists to actualise the mandate of her husband, while on her way to see a foreign diplomat on the street of Lagos.

As her children remembers her after 18 years, they are still demanding for justice, they have said the killers of their mother should be made to service the punishment for the murder of their beloved mother.

Protest in Ghana Over Chibok Girls

According to punch's report...

Hundreds of women on Sunday staged a peaceful protest in Accra, Ghana, against the kidnap of over 200 students of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, Borno state, by Boko Haram.

The women marched through some major streets of Accra and ended at the Nigerian High Commissioner’s premises where a petition signed by over 300 people was presented to the High Commissioner.

The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions, and chanted solidarity songs to bring back the kidnapped girls.

Some of the inscriptions read, “Bring back our girls,” “Release the girls now,’’ “We want action now.”

Eugenia Menson, Chief Executive Officer, Young Educators Foundation, who read the petition on behalf of the group, said there was the need to respect the right of the girls.

She said the abducted girls had the fundamental human rights to be educated, and they had the inalienable right to be girls.

Menson urged the Nigerian Government to act swiftly.

She said the protesters were just a representative of the swelling voices of Ghanaians and other people round the world who believe that “any extra second we spend not finding our girls was one second too many.”

Menson also urged the High Commissioner to press upon the Nigerian government to do everything possible within its power to bring back the girls.

His Excellency Ademola Onafonoka, Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, assured the group that the Federal Government was working tirelessly to bring back the girls.

“Let me thank you for your out pouring of emotions, and solidarity for your empathy.

“I am assuring you as a father that our daughters will be found and brought back to all of us alive and well,’’ he said.

The Chibok schoolgirls, aged between 16 and 18 years, were abducted by Boko Haram, last month.

Some of my relatives lived for decades in the North, in Kano and Bornu. They spoke fluent Hausa. (One relative taught me, at the age of eight, to count in Hausa.) They made planned visits to Anambra only a few times a year, at Christmas and to attend weddings and funerals. But sometimes, in the wake of violence, they made unplanned visits. I remember the word ‘Maitatsine’ – to my young ears, it had a striking lyricism – and I remember the influx of relatives who had packed a few bags and fled the killings. What struck me about those hasty returns to the East was that my relatives always went back to the North. Until two years ago when my uncle packed up his life of thirty years in Maiduguri and moved to Awka. He was not going back. This time, he felt, was different.

SAY A PRAYER FOR NIGERIA

I know everyone is saying we have been praying and nothing seems to happen positively, but we just need to continue to pray to our creator for intervention. Whether we like it or not, this is our problem, if our land is not peaceful, we cannot experience absolute peace and we cannot enjoy our stay on it, our land needs divine healing as it has soaked too much blood. We need mercy and a total healing from our creator.

Lord the creator of heaven and earth, please have mercy on our land and heal Nigeria. Amen.

It is also important to say here that, if there is anyone out there that has an idea of what can be done to help our dear nation restore her peace and stability, please suggest it, as continious blames will take us no where, the aim is for peace to reign and stability regained, achieving this aim is what we should focus on, this is our problem and we need a solution.

May the peace of the Lord be with Nigeria in Jesus name amen.

I’ve always been of the belief that less words and more action speaks greater volumes.

But in this case of no foreseen action, I believe some talking is in order. The abduction of these young girls goes against everything that we as Africans fought for, for so many years.

What we as Nigerians have been faced with and have been fighting over these past years. Not to mention what we women and mothers still fight against till this very day.

Kidnapping, abduction, slavery, child bride and the complete disrespect and disregard for human life and rights is…in my opinion, every wrong that seems to be getting away here.
