Whatever you choose to be. | © Fola Daniel Adelesi

Back then in my secondary school (Mayflower School, Ikenne), we sang so many inspiring songs and one of them carries the title of today’s article. Some of us believed those songs so much that we got inspiration from them when we had our down times. Upon hearing the news about Dr. Myles Munroe’s death, I began to think and eventually got myself together to write about some of the things we can take away from his life.

The song says:
‘You can become whatever you choose to be.
No king, no lord, no knave can say us nay
For we believe that man is a potential doctor,
Lawyer or cook or dwarf or giant… whichever
He sets his mind to be… we shall be giants
And therefore we shall work, and work and work and work…
Even if we must work. Work our fingers to the bone… so may it be.

The song perfectly describes the life of this great man who was born into a poor family with at least eleven children. They had nothing yet he rose to become something. Who would have imagined that a poor boy from a small country called Bahamas would be so famous that people all over the world and government leaders will be shocked by his death?

I think he could have held unto the fact that his family was so poor and there was not much he could do about that. I call it a fact because whatever you believe about yourself, even if it is not true, over time will become a fact. He looked beyond the poverty of his family and made something meaningful out of his life.
What about those other people who were born into the same situation as he was. There are so many of them out there who are older than him today. They got better opportunities and still did not see the light in them. They held unto the background that they were born into. They kept talking about how poor their parents were and how they did not get the best connections in life.

The Artist

I like encouraging people. I believe strongly that once there is life, there is A BIG hope.  I write this, not to you only but most importantly to myself.

I was thinking about the ARTIST; I listen to music, I watch movies, I listen to jokes, I read blogs, I listen to news and entertainment generally. My reaction to all these is laughing, smiling, sometimes flooded with euphoria, frowning, screaming, crying etc. depending on what it is I am reading, listening to or watching. I can either stay glued to any of them that captivate me and get entertained, or walk away if I am disappointed ( I feel they are not interesting).

The next thing is for me to start applauding or castigating (ah this one cannot even sing, see his cockroach voice, which kind makeup be this for this actress face, na who even write this foolish movie or book sef?) the blame can go on and on. I concentrated on the blame game because it’s easier and common.

I visit the blogs to read the comments and put my comments as well. I never thought that the artist that my castigating team and I insulted on the blogs went to the blogs too, read all the comments, picked the ones that can help him improve on his skills, although he felt bad by some of the comments and also happy by the few ones that saw his light. He went back to strategize and came back stronger.

I saw him again and I said wow, this is what we are talking about, kudos to you my guy, my team also said congratulations to him but of course some of the bad belles are still there ( they are actually

Nuggets for you

  • You do not always have to know when you are going to get to your goal, or how you are going to get to your goal, but you do need to take the next step.
  • Have the courage to say no. Have the courage to face the truth. Do the right thing because it is right. These are the magic keys to living your life with integrity.
  • We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.
  • Be thankful for what you have, you will end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough.

When you suck the orange | © Fola Daniel Adelesi

Many of us have at one time or the other taken oranges. A few others may have the habit of always taking fruits and the orange may just be one of your regular fruits. Have you ever stopped for once to consider what you are doing to that orange that’s giving you all its content to enjoy? Think about it. You put some pressure on that orange and it gives you what it has on the inside.

The first thing you do is to peel with a knife or some other sharp objects. As you peel the orange it does not bleed. It just shows you some beauty already covered up. Rather than being destroyed it shows you another part of itself. After the peeling you

keep the hope alive

Whatever we make out of a seemingly bad situation matters, any action we take must produce a result even if it takes time, don't give up, stay strong and be focused, learn from your mistakes, don't let your mistakes stop you, remember what made you take the first step and continue.
Use your mind to create your joy , the mind is a battle ground but it's only you that can determine the winner.

Nuggets For You (Gratitude)

  • Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer and let faith be the bridge you build to overcome evil and welcome good.
  • Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts.
  • You simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you.
  • As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.
  • Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.
  • Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.

NOBODY IS A NOBODY

This is a true story about a boy who, the world might say, was a terrible underachiever. While in the eighth grade, he failed subjects repeatedly. High school wasn’t much better; he flunked Latin, Algebra, English, and received a grade of zero in Physics. The boy managed to make the school golf team, but he lost the most important golf match of the season, and even though there was a consolation match, he failed miserably in that too.

It’s not that his peers disliked this boy; it’s just that they never really seemed to notice him much. Even “Hellos” in the hall were a rarity. Out of all the failures in his life, there was something that did hold great importance to this boy, his love of drawing. Although in high school, the cartoons he submitted to the yearbook were rejected, once out of school, the boy was so sure of his artistic talent that he approached Walt Disney Studios with drawing samples. I wish I could say the studio executives loved his work and immediately hired him, but such was not the case; another huge rejection.

Toyosi Phillips: I Am A Forgiver

I was stupidly forgiving. I called it my strength. It pleased me to forgive people, to let everything go and give no further thought to what had been said or done. I took insults and abuse in good stride. I forgave even before I was asked. I welcomed anyone back, scratch that, I invited everyone back and called it my strength.

“I’m a forgiving person.” That was the lie I told myself but the truth is it wasn’t genuine. It wasn’t any rubbish strength bestowed on me. I forgave out of guilt and fear.

RIP Myles Munroe

It is sad you are gone but we will never forget you, you have given a meaning to some many lives, your messages brought life back to some who were at the verge of death, some that were crippled by poverty received strength to gradually move to riches and wealth. The list can go on and on

"The greatest tragedy is not death, but a life without purpose"
Myles Munroe
Rest in peace Myles, Ruth and Charisa Munroe, we love you but God loves you more. You live on

Nuggets for you

  • Desire creates power.
  • Your chances of success in any undertaking can always be measured by your belief in yourself.
  • I have always believed that anybody with little guts and desire to apply himself can make it, can make anything he wants to make of himself.
  • Don't worry about failures, worry about the chances you miss when you don't even try.

Attracting opportunities with the mind By Fola Daniel Adelesi

For more than ten years I have been in situations where I attracted opportunities with my mind and I can confidently say that it works. If it has ever worked for other people it can also work for you. When I got started on this path I didn’t know its what you can call attracting opportunities with the mind. What are the things happening around you today and what where the thoughts of your mind years ago?

If you can answer that question then you will realize why you are where you are today. If you think about opportunities then they will come your way. If you expect solutions then they will come. If you dwell on how you can make things happen the way out will finally be revealed to you.

One of the most profound stories involving my own life was how I said I would become something as a first year student in secondary school and it happened six years later. There are other things I have said about myself and they have happened. This is to let you know that if you want to really attract opportunities then you can begin by attracting them in your mind. What you keep on your mind will eventually become your reality.

Nuggets for you

  • We are told that talent creates its own opportunities. But it sometimes seem that intense desire creates not only its own opportunities, but its own talents.
  • The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for. You have a clean slate every day you wake up. You have a chance every single morning to make that change and be the person you want to be. You just have to decide to do it. Decide today's the day. Say it; This is going to be my day.
  • If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.
  • Most people are so busy knocking themselves out trying to do everything they think they should, they never get around to do what they want to do.

Nuggets for you

  • Grab this, "navigation is key if you must get to the destination that led you to take the first step"
  • Positive thinking alone does not produce the desired result, the action taken to achieve a dream is what produces result.

Nuggets for you

  • Life is the movie you see through your own eyes. It makes little difference what's happening out there. It's how you take it that counts
  • When anger rises, hold back and think of the consequences
  • What is the difference between an obstacle and an opportunity? Our attitude toward it. Every opportunity has a difficulty, and every difficulty has an opportunity.
  • One of the greatest things in life is that no one has the authority to tell you what you want to be. You are the one who will decide what you want to be.
  • Man is fond of counting his troubles, but he does not count his joys. If he counted them up as he ought to, he would see that every lot has enough happiness provided for it.
I know it's been a while my people, break thingz, I needed it. Love you all

Switch: From hope to anxiety | © Fola Daniel Adelesi

This is that time of the year (seeing that we have already started the eight month) when people switch from hope to anxiety. They start thinking about the fact that they started the year with some goals and in the eight month, maybe many of the goals are yet to be achieved. People start feeling nervous. A lot of people get worried.

You sure can imagine the kind of hope that people had at the beginning of the year. They set goals and wrote resolutions. They just wished that the New Year would bring them some new luck or favour. With that expectation, they start the New Year and put in all their best.

What now happens when seven months have gone by and not much has been achieved? You look at you list of goals and you still have so much to do. You also take a quick look at the ones you are on at the moment and you come to a realization that some of them are only half completed. This is the kind of awareness that can make you break out in sweat.

Principles of Time and Chance

The time will never wait for us, it's never going to come back to us. We have to be conscious, choose with our eyes wide open and be sure of our choices, we have wished we had some opportunities we missed back then will come back to us right now, we are very sure of what we would do if those opportunities come back to us. WHAT ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY STANDING BEFORE US RIGHT NOW?

Little principles,
  • Be bold and grab this opportunity, let's never be scared of failure, it is better we fail than never try at all, WHAT IF WE SUCCEED IN THIS SAME ADVENTURE THAT WE ARE SCARED OF, HUMMMMMM?
  • Think deeply on this opportunity, let's bring out the power in the brain God gave us.if we focus on the limitations only, we will be limited absolutely, but if we spend time on the solution, I THINK THERE WILL BE A WAY OUT.
  • If this road is blocked, let's use the other road, THE GOAL IS TO GET TO THE DEFINED DESTINATION.
  • Diligence is a power tool to success, let's be diligent as we grab this opportunity. LET'S NOT DECEIVE OURSELVES AND THINK WE ARE DECEIVING OTHERS.
  • Be conscious of distractions. THERE ARE A MILLION AND ONE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHOSE MINISTRY IS TO PUT US DOWN, JUST VERY FEW OR ONLY OURSELVES WILL ENCOURAGE US.
  • Procrastination is a killer of dreams, CHASE "I WILL, I WILL, I WILL" WITH A CUTLASS. DO IT NOW.
  • Talk lessssssssssssssssssssssssssssss, LET THE ACTION SPEAK FOR ITSELF.
  • REMEMBER IT'S ONLY SUCCESS THAT HAS FRIENDS, THE GLORY IS ALWAYS WORTH THE STRESS.
  • GOD IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN GUARANTY THIS SUCCESS, SO WE MUST EMBRACE HIM WITH ALL WE'VE GOT.
