When we are determined for a good course, we have a
positive energy that drives us towards a goal. It makes us persevere to walk
through and jump all the hurdles to be able to achieve that difficult goal. It
gives us the energy to fight obstacles and move against the wind that tends to
blow us away from the goal.
This is the power that backs us up when we have done our research and we are sure that the destination we are heading is worth the stress to get there.
Let’s see the university student as an example, he
knows that education is key for him to be important in the society, he has the
obstacles of paying school fees, buying books, feeding himself, buying good
clothes and even studying is not fun for him, if he probably had a choice, he
would prefer to watch football regularly instead of studying, but he keeps to
his studies and shoves the pleasure he derives from watching the football game
at that moment when his examinations are coming, even when he hears his club is
the one playing the football match. Since he is determined to be a graduate as
anticipated and with good grades too, he puts that distraction aside for a
while.
He also probably works part time to be able to raise
his school fees, in an instance where he has no help from anywhere, he may be
ridiculed by his peers due to the way he dresses, he may stay hungry sometimes
to be able to meet up with other things concerning his academics, you will agree with me, that this
stress is not fun for this student, but it is only his determination that
is the strength he has to be able to withstand all these obstacles.
He would have said, it’s not only educated people that
are successful in life and decide to stay without the university degree because
of the stress. He would have used the excuse of lack of finance to stay without
the degree which is a reasonable excuse anyway, but he didn’t, instead he sort
for ways to achieve his dreams even though it was very tough.
When we sight gold on the other side and the only road
to where the gold is located is thorny and rough, we look at our precious skin,
feel the smoothness and feel how succulent it is. It is quite difficult to
decide to either protect the skin and forgo the gold or go through the thorny
road and reach out for the gold.
Determination makes us go ahead to reach out to the
treasure. We try to be as careful as possible in order to walk through the
thorns to avoid so many scratches on our skin but we still go, we never stop
until we get there and take the treasure. We are aware that the scares will be
treated and they will fade away over time.
Now, if we decide on the other hand to pamper and
protect our skin, to forgo the treasure, it is not to our interest, as it will
naturally wrinkle because it is even possible that for the skin to be pampered over
its existence, it needs that treasure.
We will feel less fulfilled by losing the treasure.
But if we go ahead to reach out to the treasure without minding the scares that
we will get as we head for the treasure, the skin will rejuvenate from the joy
and the overwhelming feeling that we got the treasure (the feeling you get when you win).
Determination makes us more matured because the
thought of getting the treasure compels us to be serious minded, responsible
and better thinkers. We calculate better and do not allow flimsy excuses to rob
us of the treasure.
This is the time we don’t sleep anyhow, even when
others are doing so. This is when we play for just a few minutes and get back
to work. This is when we are better able to tell about an experience because we
have one. This is when we look at everything critically to be able to make
informed decisions. This is when we analyze things that other people see as
very bad or very good before we conclude. This is when we learn anything key
for the purpose of reaching our goal, even if it is from a little baby, and
because we need every knowledge we can get to guide us to the destination of
the treasure. This is when we cannot afford to be lousy.
This time is really difficult. At times we are tempted
to back out because the experience is not pleasant at all but the thought of
the glory that comes with the treasure, gives us the energy to forge ahead and
we follow through.
When we get the treasure, we look back and we are
grateful to God that despite all odds, we got the treasure. At times this is when
our friends automatically increase because, it is natural for success to pull
crowd. Our joy is full; we have more energy to venture into another journey.
Determination is very important in whatever we are
doing. Don’t give up on that dream of yours, be determined and behold it. Keep
up a positive mind, let the pleasure that goes with winning always stay before
you, it is the best encouragement you can always have.
Don’t forget that the people that will discourage and look down on you are far more than the ones that believe something good can come out of you. So be the first person to believe in you and encourage you. You have potentials you don’t even know until you unleash them.
Let’s think of the things we have achieved before,
especially the difficult ones and draw strength from how we were able to
achieve those things. If we have done it before, it means the ability to do it
again resides in us.
The sky only will not be our limit, we will go beyond
the sky. God help us.
